10/30/2002 Archived Entry: "Good Bye SNK"

Let me tell you all about something that happened to me today....

After being let out of classes today, I drove home as usual. On the way home, I was just doing the usual jamming to music (it happened to be BoA today) and thinking about what I would pick up to eat on the way home. I decided on KFC. ^_^ Then, while I was exiting the freeway and waiting to merge into the lane, I hit a red light. Thus, I sat in the car and waited patiently for it to change to a slightly happier color (i.e. green). Then my eyes happened to pass over the temperature gauge, to which I saw an unusual sight: it indicated that my engine temperature was extremely high. I worried. That isn't normal and thus, shouldn't be happening. Then, as I was worrying, I noticed smoke emit from under my hood. At this, I thought: OH CRAP! As I finished that thought, out came even more smoke. Needless to say, I paniced. I quickly drove over to the side of the road and stopped the engine. I hastily opened the hood and took a look inside. This is when something dawned upon me: that smoke I saw earlier was water vapor. I came to this brilliant conclusion using my amazing perceiving abilities, coupled with the fact that there was tons of water under the hood. Considering my limited knowledge of car stuffs, I just hoped that nothing serious happened. Luckily for me, there were three gas stations nearby. One Shell, 76, and Chevron. Only the Chevron had a shop, so I rushed over there. I came up to the mechanic guy and explained my situation and asked whether someone could come over and look at it because I feared driving even the slightest bit. He told me that they weren't allowed to leave the station. What the heck is up with that? If a car breaks down nearby, they can't just cross the street and take a brief look at the thing to tell me what's wrong? How do they expect people to bring in their broken cars all the time? They told me to try calling AAA. Before I did that though, I called my mom. She came and together, we decided to called my dad instead of AAA. He is the only one of us who could at the very least, assess the problem. He took off work and headed over, where, with my helpful perception skills, we determined that the water hose leading into the engine broke. Apparently rubber subjected to excessive heat (such as that created by an engine) can break down. Who'da thunk? He managed to make temporary repairs by tearing off the bad, worn down part and reattaching the hose. Then he told me to drive it home, which I did. And I made it home. Now that was a relief. I thought I killed the car. At least it wasn't anything too bad. My dad actually went out and bought a bunch of hoses to replace every one under the hood and he's replacing them right now. Good daddy. He sure saved me today. I tell you, this was probably the single scariest thing that ever happened to me. Having your car break out in smoke as you're driving it is definately not a pleasant thing to happen. So remember you motorists, keep a good eye on that temperature gauge. It's there for a reason.

I am changing my wallpaper today. Now why is this important? Because I've had the same wallpaper adorning my desktop for an entire year. Now why would I do such a thing? Because it was SNK's farewell wallpaper. A year ago, SNK announed that they would close down forever. As I am one of the few remaining hardcore SNK fans, I was devestated. You don't know how hard the announcement hit me. As I was in disbelief, I found something interesting on the SNK site. Apparently, as a farewell service for their fans, SNK created a wallpaper with a great deal of their original characters. I had to have it on my desktop. And thus it was. Shortly after putting it up, despite my desire to change my wallpapers every few weeks, I decided to leave it up for an entire year. I figured it was the least I could do for one of my favorite video game companies (right up there with Sega). And thus, it was on my desktop for an entire year. Today marks the one year anniversary. And although SNK is still living on now in the form of Playmore in Korea, it's not the same SNK and it never will be. I feel that I've done a decent tribute. Now it's time to move on. So, I now have a different wallpaper (Kisaragi rulz XD). I will always remember SNK. Long live SNK.
